After years of campaigning Dublin city has finally got a night mayor.

The festival director of sea sessions, Ray O'Donoghue, has been appointed the night time economy advisor for the city to help revitalise the capital's evening offering.

It follows a government report in 2021 that recommended the position be created in towns and cities across Ireland.

In a post on LinkedIn, the concert promoter has admitted its a challenge but says the post is also "hugely exciting".

Ian Redmond operates Ohana Tiki Bar on Harcourt street and is the former owner of Tramline Nightclub. He says Dublin's nighttime economy is on its knees;

"We've been talking about this for years and its fantastic that Dublin city council have actually appointed Ray. He's a proven track record with his industry label, his record label, his festivals, artist booking and event management."
