Officers at Dublin Fire Brigade are threatening to go on strike. SIPTU members are to hold a vote over fears their service can't meet demand in the city.

The union needs four extra ambulances on the streets, but the City Council says it doesn't have the money. The Health Watchdog has identified that there is a capacity issue in relation to the operation of the ambulance service in Dublin.

SIPTU's Brendan O’Brien, said the management of Dublin Fire Brigade "has advised Dublin City Council that it is prepared to put four additional ambulances on the streets immediately".

“However, senior management in Dublin City Council has stated that it is not in a position to provide the ambulances", he claimed.

Officers in Dublin Fire Brigade will be balloted for industrial action over the "coming days", according to a spokesperson for IMPACT.
