Organisers of the Dublin Film Festival are on the hunt to find some of the thousands of people who acted as extras in one the biggest productions ever filmed in the capital.

Michael Collins was written and directed by Neil Jordan, and was filmed on the streets of Dublin during 1995, when the city's historic landmarks and over 4000 extras played a vital part in breathing life into key scenes.

Now, almost 100 years on from the Easter Rising and the events that inspired the movie, the Dublin Film Festival is looking for extras from the movie to share their stories of their time on set.

A statement from ADIFF reads "We would like to hear and see the many stories and images that people hold dear from the experience as part of a living history project and a celebration of the role of many citizens in the making of a modern historical classic and the biggest Irish film ever at the Irish box office."

Writer / Director Neil Jordan commented "We had to do everything for real on Michael Collins, since it was made twenty years ago, before CGI became the norm. I would like to thank the people of Dublin, the City of Dublin and Warner Bros., for their unique co-operation, without which it wouldn't have been possible."

If you were involved, and want to share your stories and photos of your time on set, you can email industry@diff.ie.

There will also be a chance to attend a special reunion event in Dublin hosted by the film's producer Redmond Morris later this month.

Festival Director Grainne Humphreys said "I'm thrilled to be able to programme Michael Collins in the Audi Dublin International Film Festival. Everyone remembers the excitement in Dublin when it was being filmed and so many people were part of it as extras."

"The resulting film was and is the great film of the period from Neil Jordan at the height of his filmmaking powers. I expect it will resonate with the festival audience just as beautifully as it did 20 years ago", she added.
