Strike action could be on the cards at Dublin Fire Brigade.
It’s after Dublin City Council announced that the HSE will take over the running of the ambulance service in the Dublin area.
At the moment, the HSE and Dublin Fire Brigade share control of ambulance callouts in the city.
However, a recent HIQA report said there were poor levels of co-operation and co-ordination between the two, leading to delays.
City councillors were told at their monthly meeting last night that the four Dublin local authorities reached a deal with the HSE on ambulance calls.
All emergency calls will be answered and ambulances will be dispatched from the National Ambulance Service Centre in Tallaght.
Dublin Fire Brigade ambulances will be integrated into that service and will have to follow their guideance structure.
Unions have reacted angrily to the news and say industrial action is on the cards.
A group has been set up between the HSE and Dublin City Council to look at the proposals, with a view to having them in place within 6 months.
