A court has heard how a Walkinstown man threatened to rape and kill a female Garda after he was arrested for drink driving four years ago.

43-year-old Thomas Delaney, with an address at Walkinstown Crescent, also threatened to shoot another officer and blow his family up.

On the night of Jan 20 2010, Garda Amanda King arrested Thomas Delaney in Swords on suspicion of drink driving

In the back of the patrol car, he told her he'd be waiting for her after work some night when she's not expecting it.

He said he'd rape her and take a bullet to her.

"Mark my words, you're going to die screaming, bye bye" he said.

Garda King felt terrified on her way home that night and began to question her decision to join the force.

Her colleague, Garda Patrick Whelan was also threatened.

Delaney told him he was "well connected" with criminal gangs in Crumlin and that it would be easy to get his hands on a bomb.

He said he knew where he lived and would come to his house, shoot him and blow up his home with all his family inside.

Today, the court heard Delaney has three previous convictions - the most serious of which resulted in him getting a 7 year prison sentence in 2001.

He'll have to wait until April to find out if Judge Patricia Ryan is planning to send him back to jail on these charges.
