Drug Use And Homelessness Up in Dublin Again

Homelessness and drug use rose across Dublin again last year.

Merchants Quay Ireland's annual review for 2013 shows 85-thousand meals were provided to homeless people in Dublin last year, while 16 percent more people attended its needle exchange service.

It's also highlighting the need for drug rehabilitation services outside of Dublin, with demand at its Midlands Harm Reduction Outreach Service rising by more than a third last year.

The CEO of Merchants Quay Ireland, Tony Geoghegan, says recent research shows up to 150 people are sleeping rough on the streets of Dublin each night:
