Almost one in four drivers who died in the first half of the year was not wearing a seat belt.
Of 41 drivers who were killed, 15 did not have a belt on.
Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe says safety belts are known to save drivers in half of serious collisions:
"It shows that we need to continue to promote at all times the crucial message of the importance of seat belts in saving lives."
