Jonathan Dowdall has told the judges of the non-jury Special Criminal Court that Gerry Hutch told him he shot David Byrne.
Mr Hutch denies murdering Mr Byrne at the Regency Hotel in Dublin in 2016.
Jonathan Dowdall was initially due to stand trial for murder too but the charge against him was dropped and he took the stand today on behalf of the prosecution.
In his evidence, he claimed he and his father met Gerry Hutch the night before David Byrne's murder to hand over some key cards for a room at the Regency hotel.
The court was previously told this room was later used by one of the gunmen.
Dowdall went on to say he met Gerry in a park in Dublin a few days later.
He described Hutch as being 'in a panic' and claimed he told him he and another man had shot David Byrne.
He also claims he was asked to set up a meeting with his Republican contacts with a view to putting a stop to the feud with the Kinahans.
Later that day, Gerry’s brother, Eddie Hutch, was shot dead in his home.
Dowdall was asked about a recorded conversation between the two men as they travelled to and from Northern Ireland one month after the shooting but a legal issue arose so the case was adjourned and he’ll resume giving his direct evidence tomorrow morning.
