Patients, family members and politicians have protested outside the Dáil today over the lack of funding for St Joseph's Care Home in Dublin.

The facility in Shankill is the largest nursing home in the country for people with dementia.

Management at St Joseph's say they will be forced to close if they do not receive extra funding from the HSE.

One of the services it provides to patients is bringing them cycling in a Triobike.

Staff member James Leahy says it it is one of the most popular activities.

"What we do is we bring the residents out on a weekly basis around Shanganagh Park to get the wind in their hair, to feel part of the community again and to get the local community involved in what we do in St Joseph's.

"And we have a great response to the local community that they even let dog walkers put the dogs on their lap and let them pet the dogs and all that kind of stuff.

"We're always getting stopped and say 'what's it all about', and we explain to them what we do in St Joseph's".
