Dublin City Council are cracking down on illegal dumping in the city.

It comes as the north inner city was classed the second dirtiest place in the country by 'Irish Businesses Against Litter.'

From this week the council is installing CCTV cameras and undertaking inspections of homes in the north inner city.

It's part of their "zero tolerance" crack down on illegal dumping.

Last month An Taisce announced that three Dublin districts were among four of the dirtiest places in the country.

The council has decided to tackle this problem by concentrating on one small area at a time - starting this week it will focus on Rutland Place, Summerhill and Summerhill Parade.

According to The Irish Times it is also getting legal advice on using still images taken from the CCTV footage and putting them up in the area.

All dumped bags will also be searched, which could lead to people being prosecuted.
