A court has heard that seven teenagers who violently attacked a Chinese man in the city centre were high on acid.

The 29 year old victim was knocked unconscious by the gang who then robbed his phone and left him in the middle of the street.

The Chinese man was walking home from work through Liffey Street when this group attacked him. Gardai in the CCTV monitoring room on nearby O’Connell Street saw the assault unfold live as the group began to kick the victim and knocked him unconscious.

They stole his phone and runners and one of them threw a sausage they had been eating at him before leaving him in the middle of the street. The court heard gardai had to wait six hours before interviewing the gang as they were high on acid.

Most of the defendants can’t be names as they are minors. They’ve all received various sentences ranging from suspended sentences to 10 months in detention.
