Over a thousand people are reportedly suing Dublin City Council over personal injury claims.

According to the Herald they relate to falling, tripping, employer liability or having their property damaged.

Last year the local authority paid out 8 million euro in compensation - but that was following just under 1,100 claims, which could see 2015's payouts being even higher.

Over a quarter of cases involving Dublin City Council before the courts are injury claims, and it's understood 137 insurance claims this year are over broken footpaths.

Independent Councillor Mannix Flynn believes the number of claims will rise, because reductions in staff means it takes longer for paths to be repaired.
