An Bord Pleanála has granted permission for a massive development on the doorstep of St Anne's Park.
Locals in Raheny, opposed to the housing complex, say they may go to the courts to try and block it.
The private developer has secured planning permission to build over 100 houses and 430 apartments on the former playing fields of St Paul's College.
A massive campaign was mounted to try and block the bid because of how close it would be to St Anne's Park.
But today An Bord Pleanála has given Crekav Ltd the go ahead to build.
Because the application was made under new fast track planning laws, the decision cannot be appealed.
Local senator Aodhan O'Riordain says everyone knows the city urgently needs housing but not at the expense of green space:
"People love St Anne's Park, it's the green lung of the northside. Effectively a private developer has bought these lands and it's going to take away playing permission and build eight floor of apartments which will do nothing to aid the housing crisis. What it will do is line his pockets at the expense of local amenity."
Residents and campaigners are to meet to consider their next step.
One of the last avenues open to them now is going to the courts to try and get a judicial review of the planning decision
