College fees could be going up in October's budget.
Education Minister Jan O'Sullivan hinted that a planned increase will still go ahead as the class of 2014 collect their exam results.
The maximum cost is 2,750 at the moment and is expected to go to three thousand Euro in October's budget.
Education Minister Jan O'Sullivan said today that plan was still going ahead
But she insists that she still wants to make third level education as affordable as she can.
"I certainly want to do everything I can to make it affordable because I would feel very strongly that finance shouldn't be a barrier to any student achieving their full potential".
Students are being urged to think about budgetting ahead of the new college year.
Michael Culloty from MABS says they have to take in a number of factors when putting money aside.
"If they're probably going to be living away from home, they're going to be living with other students. So they're going to have to look after bills, they're going to have to buy food, pay electricity and gas, look after their laundry as well as a social life and looking after college expenses."
The class of 2014 will find out their college choices when the CAO offers come out on Monday.
