Clontarf residents are calling on Dublin City Council to change the height of a wall they're building along the Coast Road.

It’s being built from the junction of Bull Island to the junction with the Wooden bridge that leads down to the Bull Wall.

It has two purposes, to act as a flood defence and to protect cyclists on the new Sutton to Sandymount cycle way.

Locals say they weren’t told about the height of the wall and that it would block out views of Dublin Bay from St. Annes Park to the Bridge.

Senator Averil Power says she wants the council to have a rethink on the plan like they did with the flood defence one for the Clontarf promenade.

“It’s not too late for the council to stop. Only a small amount of the wall has been built so far. I’m just urging council management to do the right thing, to listen to residents and to agree on a flood prevention proposal that’s appropriate to the area and gives us both the necessary flood defence and also protects the existing views.”

These residents aren’t happy that their view has been ruined and want the council to change their mind saying that “it’s ugly concrete”, “there’s no floods before the wooden bridge”, “they need to change their minds and consult local residents”.

A public meeting on the wall is being held at Clontarf Castle tonight at 7.30 while local politicians are meeting Dublin City Council officials at Wood Quay tomorrow morning.
