Dublin City Council wants to stop buskers from using amps on the streets of the city.

It’s part of new amendments to the busking bye-laws which will also see large bands and dance groups given one spot on Grafton Street to perform.

They’ve been in place since before the Summer but officials said they would review them to see what worked and what didn’t.

One of the new amendments is to only allow bands of three or more, or dance groups perform at the top of Grafton Street beside the entrance to the Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre.

But Andy Kavanagh from Keywest says that isn’t going to address the issue of crowd control:

"They're targetting bands like us, dancers and things like that. If you were Ed Sheeran on that street, you're going to get a big crowd. A talented solo act is going to get the same size crowd as a talented band. An untalented five piece is not going to get a crowd. So these are not solutions".

Another change will be the banning of amps following complaints from a number of businesses.

But Sinn Fein Councillor Seamus McGrattan says they should get the views of Dubliners first:

"If we ban it in this report, that's all the headlines are going to be. Everyone's going to be focusing on that, the rest of it is going to be completely lost. There's four proposals in the document, I'd put them out. There's still plenty of time on this, when it comes back in, we'll make the final decision on it".

Councillors will discuss the new changes to the bye-laws at their December meeting before it goes to public consultation.
