Dublin's live crib officially opens this morning after much debate.

The Christmas event is returning to the capital, albeit in a new location.

The Lord Mayor opted against hosting farmyard animals as part of a nativity scene outside the Mansion House this year, ending the more than 25 year tradition.

The Irish Farmer's Association and the Office of Public Works stepped in to bring the donkey, goat and two sheep to St. Stephen's Green instead.

The OPW minister Patrick O'Donovan and the IFA, which is providing the animals, will officially open the crib at 11 am.
