The city's lord mayor and a homeless charity has called for a group of protesters to stop blocking the site for the new modular homes in Ballymun.

Twenty two families will remain in emergency accommodation for Christmas if builders can't access the site.

Around a dozen demonstrators stopped contractors at the entrance to the site in Poppintree yesterday.

They are angry because they haven't been refunded 5000 euro for a housing scheme that was due to be built on the land.

Now the Lord Mayor Críona Ní Dhálaigh, the heads of the 4 Dublin local authorities and the Peter McVerry Trust have called for the blockage to stop and for protesters to enter into talks with the city council.

They are warning that 22 families will remain in hotels for Christmas if the protest isn't called off.
