Women who’re being abused by their current or ex-partners are finding their photos and details on escort sites.

That’s according to Women’s Aid who say they’re seeing a jump in the number of people suffering from digital abuse.

They took a snapshot of callers to their helpline and their one to one service.

It showed that 25 women were suffering from digital abuse by their current or ex partner.

16 of them had offensive messages sent to them or their family members by text, email, Snapchat or other social media while 7 women said their calls and locations were being monitored.

Margaret Martin is director of women’s aid, she says more and more women are suffering from slut shaming and revenge porn:

“For an awful lot of women, what’s happening is that their names are being put up on escort agency websites. So they’re getting calls, they’re getting harassment, photographs, that kind of trolling of women. It’s the damage that does”.

She added that spyware is becoming a huge problem when it comes to stalking.

“Alot of digital devices are being used to record women’s conversations with their family and friends, to get online to look at who they’re connecting with, to video them, to record them”.

The charity are calling for new laws to make stalking, including cyber stalking, an offence and recognised as grounds for a safety order from the courts.
