The Social Justice Campaigner Fr Peter McVerry is calling for emergency rent controls to help ease the growing housing and homelessness crisis.
Speaking at a public meeting in Dublin earlier, Fr McVerry said increased rents were now the leading cause of homelessness and he called on the Government to take action.
The meeting was hosted by the trade union IMPACT and the Tánaiste and Minister for Social Protection Joan Burton was in attendance.
