A Garda division should be created to police public transport in Dublin city.

Independent Councillor Deirdre Donnelly says it would help cut down on anti-social behaviour, particularly on the DART and Luas.

She says the division could be a medium term measure with a dedicated transport police created in the long run;

"For example we have the Traffic Corps at the moment, we have a community policing division, we have a division of the Gardaí tackling gangland crime and I don't see why we would not have a divison of An Garda Síochána there patrolling our public transport to make it safe for everybody."

Earlier this month government TD Alan Farrell spoke out about hearing a group of young men chanting about raping a woman on an evening DART service.
