The Tánaiste says she wants every child in Ireland to have two years of free pre-school education before the end of the year.
Joan Burton made the commitment in her Leaders' Speech to the Labour conference last night.
Only two months ago, Fine Gael's children's minister James Reilly said a second year of the scheme would simply cost too much.
