Because of Brexit, packets of biscuits will never be the same again...

McVities is putting seven fewer Digestives in each packet.

It says it would rather shrink pack sizes than switch to cheaper ingredients, with the slump in the pound pushing up costs.

It's already cut the number of Jaffa Cakes from 12 to 10 - and is reducing how many HobNobs are in a packet, too.

Here's the history behind the noble biscuit:

"Biscuit" is derived from the Latin words bis (twice) and coctus (cooked), and, hence, means "twice-cooked"

They were popular on long voyages because of they're ability to keep for long periods of time.

At the time of the Spanish Armada in 1588, the daily allowance on board a British Royal Navy ship was one pound of biscuit plus one gallon of beer

Biscuits remained an important part of the Royal Navy sailor's diet until the introduction of canned foods.

And now you know.
