A Brazilian woman has admitted lying about being raped in Phibsboro three months ago.
The 21 year old told Gardai she made up the story because of financial pressure at an apartment she shared with her boyfriend in Cabra Park.
Gardai spent almost two weeks investigating an allegation of rape made by Thais Regina de Oliveria.
The Brazilian student said she was attacked by two men in a laneway on Cabra Park as she made her way to work on August 24th.
She attended the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit and made a full statement to Gardai the following day.
Descriptions of her alleged attackers were distributed to the media but after 12 days of investigating her claim, Gardai began to find holes in her story.
Her lies began to unravel when investigating officers realised she didn't work at the bar she claimed she was on her way to the night she was raped.
She admitted making the whole thing up, claiming she was under pressure to find a job to pay bills and needed a story to buy her some time with her flatmates.
