A pro boxer, who was stabbed in Shankill on St. Stephen’s Day 2013, claims his alleged attacker came at him “like he was going to war”.

Sean Turner has been giving evidence in the trial of Wayne Kennedy of Rathsallagh Park, Shankill who’s accused of murdering his friend.

Sean Turner, a professional boxer from Shankill, enjoyed Christmas dinner with his family in 2013 before going to meet friends for some drinks at 10 o’clock.

In the early hours of St. Stephen’s Day, he says he got a Facebook message from Wayne Kennedy, accusing him of not being able to pay a €50 debt.

They arranged a straightener; during which he claims Mr. Kennedy “came head first” at him “looking like he was going to war” and stabbed him in the leg and stomach.

He told the jury his friend David Spain then started fighting him and was knifed up to seven times. He was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries a short time later.

The prosecution believes Mr. Kennedy armed himself with a knife from his kitchen before leaving for the fist fight and that he used it to attack Sean Turner and murder David Spain.

The 33-year-old denies both charges.
