This major crackdown on drink driving includes measures to take blood samples from all drivers injured in crashes.

It means samples can be taken from motorists even those who can't give consent because they're unconscious or they're claiming injury.

The new rules will also give gardai the power to ask drivers to perform a range of tasks including walking in a straight line like they do in the States.

The details will be unveiled at the launch of the annual road safety campaign ahead of the festive period.
