Beaumont Hospital Apologises To Elderly Man Left In Dishevelled State

Beaumont Hospital has apologised to the family of an elderly man for failing to protect his dignity.

Gerry Feeney was admitted to the facility from his nursing home in December last year.

He was assessed and discharged only to be re-admitted again later in the month.

While at the facility the eighty one year old who suffered from Parkinsons disease, was left exposed in a dirty gown at the hospital. 

He was in a dishevelled state and his incontinence pad was open, leaving him exposed.

When a picture of the elderly men emerged, it sparked outrage.

He died three weeks after his release from hospital.

An independent report commissioned by the hospital following complaints by Mr Feeney's family, found there was a failure to implement discharge and staffing level policies.

It added that there was poor communication and confusion about Mr Feeney's care.

Meanwhile the Family of Gerry Feeney is calling for the setting up of a fully independent investigating body to examine adverse incidents in Irish hospitals.
