Meanwhile, 5,000 homes and businesses are in the dark this evening, as the ESB battles to restore power. Up to 14,000 were without power earlier - particularly in the south west - but it's thought most of those faults have now been fixed.
Around 1,200 people are currently in the dark in Wicklow, with a further 800 in New Ross in Wexford, while 500 are without power in Athlone.
