A baby has been found abandoned in Rathcoole.
The baby was found by a person walking along the Steelstown Road this afternoon.
The girl, who was born earlier today, was given medical treatment at the scene before being taken to Tallaght Hospital.
Her condition is described as critical but stable. Gardai say, as yet, they have no information on the baby's mother.
Superintendent Brendan Connolly said Gardaí "are concerned for the welfare of the mother of this child and are appealing for her to seek immediate medical treatment and to contact Gardaí who are anxious to reunite her with her baby”.
