Average Rent In Dublin Is Now Over €1400

The average advertised rent in Dublin is now €1409 that's up 40% from their lowest point in 2011.

Rents in the capital are now just 2.5% lower on average than their previous peak at the end of 2007 and start of 2008.

The latest figures come from property experts Daft.ie.

Report author Ronan Lyons believes some landlords raised their prices when they heard new rent controls were on the way:

However the Father Peter McVerry Trust says rent certainty alone isn't responsible for the current price hikes for tenants.

The homeless charity claims rents have gone up because the Government waited too long to bring in any kind of certainty.

Its annual report shows the number of people using its service is up for the 7th year in a row and it's afraid the new spike in prices could force even more people out of their homes.
