Anyone without a ticket is being advised not to travel to the New Year's Festival events in the city this evening.

Three events are taking place at Custom House Quay - a special light show along the Liffey; a countdown concert featuring Gavin James; and an early evening version of the Liffey light show.

With around 25,000 people set to attend in total, organisers say all three events are now sold out.

In a statement, festival organisers said: "Gardaí and organisers have appealed to local and international visitors along with residents living in the greater Dublin area not to travel to Custom House Quay without a ticket.

"A Garda ticket checkpoint cordon and traffic management plan are now in operation on all approach routes. Please do not travel to event without a ticket and avoid the area unless attending one of the all-ticketed events."

Lord Mayor Nial Ring added: "The basic message is NO ticket, DON'T come near the quays! Stay around town for the great atmosphere but don't approach the quays.

"There are a lucky 25,000 people who will attend the three live celebration events starting from 6pm whilst the live streamed broadcast coverage of the celebrations will showcase Dublin City to an audience of millions around the globe."

The midnight celebrations are set to be broadcast on RTÉ One from 11:45pm.
