Anti-terror units are to be deployed to stop next months water charges protest from being hijacked.
The rally takes place in the city centre on December 10th.
Surveillance of dissident republicans groups will be stepped up by gardai ahead of the demonstration.
Officers will be carrying overt and undercover checks on known subversives ahead of the protest and on the day itself.
Social media will also be monitored.
Gardai stress that they expect the vast majority of those attending to act in a completely lawful manner and the reason for surveillance is out of concern that violent dissident groups may try to hijack the peaceful event.
