Amplifiers will not be banned in the city centre if new bylaws on busking get the go ahead.
Instead Dublin city councillors discussed limiting music levels to 80 decibles, at a special meeting this morning.
The draft rules include a ban on busking between Fownes Street and East Essex Street in Temple Bar.
It the bylaws work its hoped festivals and competitions can take place in the future.
The proposals now have to be approved by a full council meeting next month.
