Irish Rail has taken on new apprentices, for the first time in 20 years.
Almost two thousand people applied for just 13 electrician, mechanic and fitter positions.
They'll now embark on a four year apprenticeship in conjunction with Solas.
Out of Irish Rail's 3700 work force, only 40 are below the age of 30.
