Construction workers in Dublin city are using their own equipment to remove parking clamps.

A report from the city council has found the introduction of Fixed Penalty Notices has helped address problematic areas.

Castleforbes Road near the 3Arena had the highest number of code blacks, where clamps are illegally removed. Between January and November last year there were forty-three incidents on the street.

Mount Street Upper and Sheriff Street Upper were also highlighted as problem areas.

The city council introduced the use of Fixed Penalty Notices last June for a number of offences. This was widened last October to combat areas of concern, particularly around construction sites.

1,129 of them have been handed out since the middle of last year, with parking on footpaths accounting for 45 per cent of the fines. The Hole In The Wall road had the largest number.

The report has recommended more mobile patrols by bike or foot to allow a more targeted enforcement presence.
