The woman at the centre of the abortion legislation controversy has revealed she attempted to take her own life.
In an interview with The Irish Times she says she expressed her desire to die after finding out she was eight weeks pregnant and attempted suicide at 16 weeks.
The woman says she was raped in her home country and only discovered she was pregnant after moving to Ireland.
An expert panel agreed she was suicidal when she was admitted to hospital at 24 weeks but it was too later to carry out a termination.
The baby was delivered early by c-section.
Leading Obstetrician Dr Peter Boylan says another abortion referendum is needed.
