Tram tracks have fallen silent again as another Luas strike moves into gear.

Drivers are downing tools today and tomorrow on top of last week's industrial action over pay.

They also plan to walk off the job on the 8th of March and Paddy's Day.

Owen Reidy from SIPTU says they never wanted it to come to this.

'we are very sorry about this. I can assure you that the workers who have been working with this company for many years some from the very start, would much rather be delivering the public service, that they are proud to do rather then walking around the picket line.'

He added that 'they are equally determined to get what they consider to be a just resolution  to this dispute. And I think it's incumbent on all of us to sit down, roll up our sleeves and come to an agreement.'

Some drivers are looking for pay increases of up to 54% over the next five years, but Luas operators Transdev say they can't afford that. Managing Director Gerry Madden says he doesn't think there is any justification for the demands:

'Owen Reidy has been invited on numerous occasions by myself and others to seriously look at the claim.'

He said the company have 'gone and looked at not just in the countries we operate but beyond that to find out if there's any tram drivers who are on better paying conditions and we cant find any.'

He believes that 'at the very least I think Owen Reidy and SIPTU need to explain to the massive amount people who are going to to be inconvenienced by these strikes, what the justifications are for these pay claims.

These people in Dublin have told 98FM what they think of the strike:
