357 homeless people have died in Dublin over the last five years, including 70 so far this year.

Less than 50 passed away in 2019, increasing to 76 in 2020 and rising significantly to 115 last year.

The figures from the Dublin Region Homeless Executive show there were 12 deaths in January, March and July this year. In total 70 people lost their lives between January and September.

Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín, who requested the figures under a Freedom of Information request, says he expects more people to pass away as we head into the winter;

"This is just in the capital. Unfortunately and shockingly the government don't even record the number of homeless deaths that happen throughout the rest of the country and we in Aontú have been calling for the government to do that, if a government can't analyse what's happening it's not going to be able to put in the necessary supports to ensure that lives are saved."
