Dublin City Council’s looking to see if there are builders out there who’re willing to build private and social housing on sites they own.

They’re looking to develop five sites around the city which they say could provide much needed houses.

Senator Aideen Hayden says given the lack of funding avaialable to Councils they have to look at other options.

Meanwhile 325 vacant council houses across the city are being earmarked for refurbishment thanks to Housing Minister Jan O'Sullivan.

She says it is a positive move as it removes space that can often become a focal point for anti-social behaviour.
