A leading fire safety expert says we could see a repeat of Priory Hall and Longboat Quay if building regulations aren’t changed.
An international conference which is taking place in the city, has been looking at fire issues in buildings, in particular escape routes for people with disabilities.
It comes as the taxpayer foots the bill to repair safety defects at Longboat Quay in the Docklands and work continues to fix the former Priory Hall in Clongiffin.
Organiser CJ Walsh, who’s a fire safety engineer, says those developments are just the tip of the iceberg.
He added that the quality of construction was so bad during the celtic tiger years, it's going to take up to 15 years to repair the damage.
He says things need to change if we’re to avoid making the same mistakes again.
The Environment Minister Alan Kelly says a review of building regulations is underway.
