Why Your Instagram Feed Is Now Out Of Order

Say goodbye to chronological ordering of posts - Instagram has officially changed its feed.

Posts no longer appear in the sequence they were posted by people you follow from oldest to newest. Instead, users will now see pictures the photo sharing app thinks they want to see. Posts are now prioritised by users you've previously interacted with.

The change, which is similar to Facebook's news feed, was first announced back in March. A spokesperson for Instagram said:

"If your favourite musician shares a video from last night’s concert, it will be waiting for you when you wake up, no matter how many accounts you follow or what time zone you live in.”

The spokesperson added: "On average, people miss 70 per cent of their feeds. It's become harder to keep up with all the photos and videos people share as Instagram has grown.

"You’ll see this new experience as we roll it out over the coming month. We’re going to keep improving over time to help make Instagram even better."

So how to you make sure your photos are still seen? Instagram hasn't exactly revealed how it selects which posts display at the top of your feed, but we're guessing it works the same way as Facebook. So, the posts that have the most engagement (likes, comments and shares) will be more visible.
