Bright For Sight
Sightsavers are back with their Bright for Sight fundraising campaign this summer.
About 285 million people around the world live with visual impairment, with 36 million people living with blindness.
People are often surprised to learn that 75% of sight loss can be cured or prevented.
Sightsavers work in more than 30 developing countries to prevent blindness, restore sight and advocate for people with disabilities.
This July they're are asking businesses across the country to go Bright For Sight to raise vital funds for the cause.
On Friday 24th July Sightsavers are asking as many people as possible across Ireland to take part by wearing something yellow into work.
Whether it's your brightest t-shirt, an eye-catching pair of socks, or that banana costume from Halloween five years ago.
Why yellow? It's the colour that's easiest to identify for people with a visual impairment.
The money you raise can make a huge difference to someone's life.
Here's what your donations can do:
- €0.17 protects someone against the blinding disease trachoma
- €2 provides a pair of glasses
- €4 pays for a lens for a child’s cataract operation
- €32 provides a cataract operation for an adult
- €104 restores a child’s sight through a cataract operation.
So why not get involved and host your own Bright for Sight event at home or at work.
Simply email bright@sightsavers.ie to let them know you’re taking part.
