Straight Blast Gym is opening a new location in Inchicore later this month.

The state of the art gym, run by Head Coach John Kavanagh, is roughly 16,500 sq. feet, contains 7 training areas, and is the only gym in Ireland to own a full size octagon for competitive and aspiring MMA fighters to train in.

Kavanagh is Ireland’s first ever Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt, and one of the pioneers of Irish MMA.

A large selection of MMA and fitness classes will be hosted in the gym, as well as a private training room for one to one sessions with the coaches.

There'll also be a Strength and Conditioning area and a sound proof private training room for the Vikingaþrek sessions, an Icelandic training concept combining Kettlebells, Combat, and body weight exercises.

Members will also be able to benefit from a chartered physio onsite and a communal sauna.

Owner John Kavanagh says, “It’s been incredible to see SBG grow from it’s humble beginnings to what it is now. I’m so proud of the team and all we’ve created so far and am looking forward to seeing all we’ll achieve in our new home in Inchicore."

Straight Blast Gym Open Day This Weekend

To celebrate the new opening, SBG are welcoming people down for an open day on Sunday 22nd September from 10am to 4pm. Throughout the day various classes will be available for visitors to jump right into, with guidance from trained coaches.

These classes include BJJ, Striking and Víkingaþrek for adults, teens striking (13-18) and for younger visiters, kid BJJ (ages 4-12).

To kick things off, Royce Gracie will be hosting a ladies’ self defence class from 12-1.30pm, with female members of the gym also taking part.

Any contributions on the day will be matched by one of the world’s largest fight promotions, Bellator, and donated to the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.
