Stoneybatter Festival: All You Need To Know

The Stoneybatter Festival takes place this weekend. Organisers have unveiled a huge list of events taking place from June 21st to 23rd.

The three day neighbourhood and street festival takes place in the heart of Dublin 7.

Here's everything you need to know if you're heading along this weekend:

What's on?

120 events are taking place across 3 days. You can expect music, entertainment, food and drink, arts and culture, family fun, sport, and environmental themed attractions.

Friday

Friday night will include:

  • The festival launch.
  • The launch of a new IPA brewed specifically for the festival.
  • A spoken word event featuring local writers, entitled 'Storybatter'.

The weekend will also feature a 'secret cinema', at Stable Lane. The lineup includes a special screening of the 1988 RTE Documentary on “The Villages of Dublin – Stoneybatter”.

Saturday

Saturday will see the return of open house day. This includes museums, galleries, local businesses and private homes. It features tours, talks and heritage events.

Attendeesl will be able to take tours of the Criminal Courts of Justice, Saor Ollscoil na hÉireannSaor, and many other venues.

This year’s festival sees the launch of Where Art Thou?, a  new exhibition of work by Dublin 7 creatives, which will be displayed in the windows of  Manor Street shops.

Sunday

On Sunday 23rd June, Stoneybatter and Manor Street will be closed to traffic from 12 noon to 6pm for a family fun day.

This will include:

  • The Great Batter Bake Off with Pauline McLynn (Mrs Doyle in Fr Ted)
  • The return of the hugely popular best dressed dog contest Woofstock

Food and Drink

Food and drink will feature strongly across the festival programme with a wide range of local businesses partaking for events, including:

· The ‘Touchy Feely Tasty Smelly Sensory Quiz’

· Whiskey expert and local resident, Seáneen Sullivan, will host a special festival edition of Mistresses of Malt featuring the unstoppable women of the Irish whiskey world, on Saturday afternoon.

· The inaugural ‘Blas na Batter’ recipe competition.

· Discussions on food sustainability and biodiversity.

· Walsh’s pub, voted Best Pub in Ireland, will stage a Pop-Up Gaeltacht.

Music

Clarke’s City Arms has been chosen as the ‘Festival Music Hub’ which will feature trad sessions, jazz, rock and punk music as well as DJ sets through the weekend. Saturday night sees an evening of music which will take place in the surroundings of St Laurence’s Church, Grangegorman.

The residents and local businesses wish to extend a warm welcome to all Dubliners to come and join their mid-summer celebrations.
