When people think of Iarnrod Eireann, they rarely picture romance. But for one special couple, their love story was a journey to remember.

Ciaran O'Keeffe travels daily from Coolmine to the Docklands, as does Geraldine McCauley. Back in 2013, his spotted her on the platform.

The pair would stare at each other hoping to be noticed. Geraldine even referred to Ciaran as "train boy" when talking to her friends and family. She remembers hanging up on her friend in an attempt to catch Ciaran's attention.

Despite the obvious attraction, the pair didn't actually talk for a good while. Ciaran blames Geraldine's use of headphones for that. She remembers asking Ciaran why he didn't make a move sooner:

"I said 'Why didn't you talk to me' and he said 'Cause you were reading the metro and you had your earphones in. How am I supposed to approach a girl with her earphones in' so for anyone single out there keep your head up and put your phone down."

In preparation for their wedding, Ciaran asked Irish Rail if he could have some posters to use as table settings at their wedding. Instead the company pulled out all the stops to make their final journey as singletons a trip to remember.

As the couple boarded the train at Coolmine this morning, they were greeted by champagne, flowers and a serenade. Geraldine was so overwhelmed, she got a little teary eyed. She really wasn't expecting the surprise.

Ciaran wanted to surprise his fiance on the train where they first met. For him, it's a great memory in the lead up to their wedding. Even though the couple never thought they would find love on a train, they have no regrets.

Geraldine and Ciaran are getting married this day next week. We wish the couple the best of luck with their fairy tale love story.
