"The world is in trouble"

Sir David Attenborough has joined Instagram.

The broadcaster created a profile this morning and already has over 600,000 followers.

Sir David shared a video message explaining why he chose to join the platform.

"The world is in trouble, continents are on fire, glaciers are melting, coral reefs are dying, fish are disappearing from the oceans."

The 94-year-old explained that we know how to fix these problems.

"Over the next few weeks I'll be recording messages to explain what the problems are and how we can deal with them - Stay tuned!'

In other Attenborough news, David Attenborough A Life On Our Planet is coming to Netflix on 4th October.

The series will see the natural historian recount his life while offering a vision for the future.
