We have a new baby at Dublin Zoo!

Keepers are celebrating the birth of an eastern bongo calf who was born on the fifth of January weighing 15kgs.

They're an extremely endangered animal and can now only be found in one remote area of Kenya.

There are between 75 and 140 of the antelopes in the wild because they're commonly hunted for their horns and meat.

Keepers haven't been able to get close enough yet to find out if the calf is male or female.

But team leader Helen Clarke Bennet says "the calf has been well-received by its mother and grandmother Kimba has also taken a shine to the family’s latest addition. We’re pleased to see the new arrival is feeding well and has adapted seamlessly to its newfound surroundings.”

Helen says newborn bongos are very shy and their natural instinct is to take cover to protect themselves, so it may be a while before visitors to the zoo can get a good look.
