Irish Actors Make Up Half The Nominations In The Best Male Actor Category At 81st Golden Globes

What a day for the Irish!

The Golden Globes nominations for 2024 came out yesterday afternoon and Cillian Murphy, Barry Keoghan and Andrew Scott have all been nominated in the Best Male Actor category.

Cillian for his role in summer blockbuster Oppenheimer, Barry Keoghan for his role in the newly released Saltburn and Andrew Scott for his role in All Of Us Strangers starring opposite Paul Mescal.

Also nominated in the category are Bradley Cooper  for Maestro, Leonardo DiCaprio for Killers of the Flower Moon and Colman Domingo for Rustin.

These aren’t the lads’ first Golden Globes nominations.

Barry was nominated last year for his performance in Banshees of Inisherin, Cillian was previously nominated for Breakfast on Pluto and Andrew Scott for Fleabag.

There’s more Irish interest as Poor Things starring Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe that includes the Irish company Element Pictures among its producers.

Element Pictures are the company behind critically acclaimed productions such as Normal People and The Lobster.

Barbie, which broke Irish box office records this summer, leads the nominations with nine in total. It comes second to as the most nominated movie in Golden Globes history

  • Killers of the Flower Moon - 7
  • Poor Things - 7
  • Past Lives - 5
  • May December - 4
  • Anatomy of a Fall - 4
  • Maestro -4

Succession leads the TV nominations with nine in total, including best TV drama series.

Only Murders in the Building, The Diplomat, The Morning Show and The Crown are among other TV shows to pick up a few nominations.

We'll find out who the winners are when the ceremony takes place in Los Angeles on the 7th of January 2024!
