The Garda Representative Association says it's disturbing that a garda was attacked as he tried to help an elderly woman during an incident in Ballyfermot.
He received medical treatment after he was surrounded by a group of young people and struck with a missile yesterday.
Gardai were in the area for a policing plan for a large funeral. A number of scrambler bikes were in the area.
GRA President Brendan O’Connor is condemning what happened. He said: ''Yet again unfortunately we saw another incident yesterday where one of our colleagues was injured and hospitalised going to the aid of a member of the public who was in danger. We saw a hostile mob surrounding and attacking members. we saw damage to patrol vehicle so again another disturbing incident.''
He added: "We repeat our calls for the Minister for Justice to set up a taskforce to tackle the huge challenges facing policing.
"To address the number one problem, which is the shortage of Gardaí," he added.
Local Cllr Hazel De Nortúin says they need to figure out why some young people are being hostile to gardai and unfortunately this attack is 'nothing new.'
She said: ''It's been springing up in different areas. We need to figure out how to tackle it in a different way. If we are just coming it an the end stage, we are not actually addressing it.''
