Dublin city council is proposing spending close to €6 million on four new public toilets for the city centre.
It follows a U-turn on plans to shut the only remaining public bathroom in the city at St Stephen's Green.
The city council had planned to close temporary toilets at the top of Grafton street after a fall in demand but scrapped the idea after backlash from councillors and the public.
It's now revealed proposals for four new public bathrooms. Two will be located on the southside at South King Street and Barnardo Square, with another two north of the River Liffey on Prince's Street and at Smithfield Square.
In a report for councillors, it estimates the facilities will cost €1.3 million euro to put in. It's thought another €4.4 million will have to be spent over the next five years paying a service provider to maintain, clean and provide security for the on-street toilets.
The final figure is estimated to be €5.7 million.
